Group Descriptions

Spring 2025 – Group Therapy Descriptions

The Amazing 21%: A Supportive Group for Students with a Chronic Physical Illness or a Long-Term Physical Disability

Day/Time: Wednesday, 11:00am – 12:00 pm, online/telehealth

Description: The Amazing 21% is a space where we can share, laugh and sometimes cry together as we navigate life with a chronic illness or physical disability. It’s a place to talk about self-advocacy, how to cope with symptom flares/complications, spoon theory, and the emotional impact of physical limitations. Although friends without chronic illness or physical disability can be a wonderful support, there is something special and necessary about people that truly understand what it’s like to be a student with a chronic illness or a physical disability.

Family Focus: A Group for Students Who Want to Explore Their Family of Origin Difficulties

Day/Time: Monday, 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm

Description: Family Focus is a group for students who want to explore sometimes complicated family-of-origin issues. This group will explore communication styles, family roles/rules/rituals, healthy boundary setting, identity formation, and intergenerational influences. This is a great group for students who want to build insight, self-awareness, skills, and support while learning how to navigate complex family systems. This group is always open to new members; however, a group screening is required to attend this group to make sure it would be a good fit for students. To be a part Family Focus, set up a group screening at BUCC with Chris.

Recovering from Break Up:  A Support Group for Students Recovering from Friendship or Romantic Breakups and/or Unhealthy Relationship Patterns

Day/Time: Tuesday, 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm

Description: Recovering From Breakup is a group to help students heal from recent relationship breakups. Whether it’s a broken friendship or a romantic relationship break up, this group will offer a supportive environment to process and cope with the loss. This group is a safe place for all genders to share mixed emotions, process grief, and to move forward in a healthy way. This group is always open to new members! No group screening is needed to be a part of this group, but if students would like to meet with the facilitator before they attend group, contact BUCC and schedule a meeting with Teran.

Creative Arts (Monday): An Artistic Visual Art Interpersonal Process Group

Day/Time: Monday, 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm

Description: Are you looking for a creative way to build connections, increase your self-awareness, or deepen your understanding of emotions? Creative Arts group is a great place to begin! You don’t need to be artistic or gifted with creative ability to participate in this group. All artistic levels are welcome! The group will close to newcomers after it begins. There are limited places and this group typically fills up fast, so reach out to BUCC and schedule your group screening for Creative Arts with Stephen.

30-Minute Get After It Group: A Place to Create and Accomplish Attainable Weekly Goals

Day/Time: Monday, 12:30 pm – 1:00 pm and Thursday 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm

Description: 30-Minute Get After It Group is an open support group for students who want to make and accomplish attainable short-term goals. In this group you will learn to break goals into attainable steps, identify potential barriers to accomplishing goals, and how to formulate a plan of action. This group is for you if you have ADD, ADHD, are recovering from a mild depressive episode, are working to overcome a mild generalized or social anxiety, or if you just want to work on self-improvement in general. Newcomers are always welcome in this group! If you are interested in joining us this semester, contact BUCC and schedule your group screening with Heather.

ACT Group: A Group To Address Anxiety/Depression Through Mindfulness and Acceptance

Day/Time: Wednesday, 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm

Description: Do you ever feel overwhelmed by depression, anxiety or stress? Do racing thoughts or painful feelings keep you from living the way you want?  Learn why your difficulties persist despite your best efforts and what you can do differently. In ACT group, we will pay attention to your experiences, learn how to take control of your choices even when they are uncomfortable, and get back to living in the way you really desire. ACT group will close to newcomers after the group begins to meet.

Life to the FULLest - Providing a space for students to identify how disordered eating/eating disorders have interrupted personal goals, affected their sense of self, and relationships with others

Day/Time: Tuesday, 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

Description: Life to the FULLest provides a space for students to identify how disordered eating/eating disorders have interrupted personal goals, affected their sense of self, and relationships with others. Sessions are designed to be both educational and experiential, helping members explore barriers to recovery, build motivation, and cultivate self-compassion. Group facilitators aim to foster a space that is open, affirming, and recovery oriented for all members, with a focus on helping group members provide one another with encouragement and shared accountability. Members will benefit from the group regardless of where they may be in the process of understanding how disordered eating thoughts and behaviors have impacted their life and what is important to them. To participate, schedule a group screening in your health portal or reach out to the BUCC and schedule with Kallie.

To sign up for a group listed above, log into your Baylor Health Portal, select "schedule an appointment", then select "Counseling Appointment", and "MH Group Screen". This will give you available options. You can also call our front office 254-710-2467.
